When you learn about language, you cannot avoid to learn the culture too. Language is a part of a culture. Language has very massive influence for a culture in a certain area. In other words, language makes or build the culture not in a vice versa. Language has very necessary role in the strength or weakness of nation. The more the language spreads around the world, the greater the country is. Therefore, that might be a factor of English countries whether that is Britain or United States to make all countries in the world also use English. Whether it is about British or America, they would like to make everybody around the world needs English to make their nations bigger and bigger. They want people name them. Further, they aim to make other country lose their own identity.
It could not be denied that in this globalization era, people are free to access everything from internet or online sources. The world is in our hand when we have gadget which is connected to internet. Everything is possible in this world. When you want to know something, you just go for it in Google to surf. When you want to listening to the song or playing some dance, you just go to Youtube as the online platform. Or maybe you could not be able to cook or repair something, you can search it via laptop, PC, or your smartphone. You can get better sources if you know or understand English. So that is why English is very important to learn.
Nowadays, Indonesia also has the ministry regularity called as AEC (ASEAN Economic Community) or in Indonesian we can call it as MEA (Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN). It makes English is more having a great part of communication for ASEAN people. It is used to make some cooperation in any fields. So here, English becomes really important to learn especially for Indonesian people. In addition, we live in a digital era that require us to master English. But, if we could not join English course because of the financial problem, we just can learn English easily by internet.
Someone who can master or be able use English well sometimes will feel prouder in using English rather than his or her national language. In other words, mastering or even learning English absolutely has pluses and minuses impacts. One of the minuses of mastering English is about the nationality of the young generation who will feel prouder and cooler to use English in their daily life rather than use their own language as the identity to show others about who they are.
That is also the current issue in Indonesia which happened today especially for the young generations. Indonesian’s young generations feel more awesome when they can do anything by using English in their daily life. They almost forget that they are Indonesian. They almost forget that they have a language which is Bahasa Indonesia which also cooler than any other languages because it might be used to unite all Indonesian people from Sabang to Merauke. They almost forget that they are the stakeholders which have the biggest contribution to keep and preserve Indonesian language so that this language will always be there now and forever. People will look us as a big country who still uphold and idolize our own language although we know and also master many languages rather than Bahasa Indonesia itself. Therefore, people from other countries will still respect to us as an Indonesian people from now until forever.
We have to be proud of our own national language although we also need English to be learned in this digital and globalization era. Keep your spirit to learn English because you need it, but do not forget to keep being proud of your own national language to show the word that “ I AM INDONESIAN” by always use it proudly and politely.
