English is constantly changing. New technologies, social media trends, and changes in the way people live and communicate continue to create new words and expressions. Some of them quickly become part of everyday conversations, while others remain popular mainly online.

1. Brain Rot

“Brain rot” is used humorously to describe the feeling that comes from consuming too much low-quality or repetitive online content. For example, someone might say, “I’ve been watching short videos for three hours. My brain is completely rotted!”

2. Delulu

“Delulu” is an informal shortened form of delusional. It is often used playfully online when someone has unrealistic expectations or strongly believes something they wish were true. For example: “I think my favorite celebrity will notice me—I'm being delulu!”

3. Rizz

“Rizz” refers to someone's charm or ability to attract a romantic partner. You might hear someone say, “He has so much rizz!” It can also be used as a verb: “He rizzed her up.”

4. Situationship

A “situationship” describes a romantic or emotional relationship that is more than friendship but does not have a clearly defined status. It has become especially common in discussions about modern dating.

5. Prompt

With the growing popularity of AI, “prompt” has become much more familiar outside technical settings. It refers to the instructions or input given to an AI system to generate a response, image, text, or other content.

6. AI Slop

“AI slop” is a critical term for large amounts of low-quality or unoriginal content produced using AI. The expression is increasingly used when people discuss the huge volume of AI-generated posts, images, and videos appearing online.

     Why Do New Words Matter?

Learning new vocabulary isn't only about memorizing words from a dictionary. Understanding modern expressions can help you follow conversations, social media, movies, and online discussions more easily. However, remember that some words—especially slang—are informal and may not be appropriate for academic or professional writing.

The next time you hear a strange English word online, don't ignore it—it might be the newest addition to modern English!
