There have been some debate whether or not students should wear uniforms. For the past decade, schools, parents, and students have argued over the issue of school attire policy at school. Some people might think that wearing school uniforms are unnecessary for the students. They even think that there is no point on having such policy at school. On the other hand, I personally believe that school uniforms would be better for the students for several reasons.
Firstly, wearing school uniforms are proven to be effectively good in decreasing the students’ bad behaviours. A study conducted by Jafeth Sanchez and George Hill from University of Nevada, Reno College of Education reported that gang-related activities and student fights were decreasing since the uniform policy was implemented at Sparks Middle School in 2008-2009. Additionally, school police data showed a 63 percent reduction in police log reports during the first year of implementation. Changing the clothes they wore to school had positive impacts for the students.
The next reason why school uniform is better is that it teaches the children about the value of unity and equality. “Uniforms show that you are part of an organisation. Wearing it says we’re all in this together.” said Jason Wing, head teacher at the Neale-Wade Academy in Cambridgeshire. By wearing the same uniform at school, children will realize that they belong to the school and are all equal as human being. They might come from different race, culture, or even religion, but one thing they have in common is that they are human whose rights are equally the same.
Another reason is that the school uniforms make mornings easier. Students may spend a lot of time to figure out which clothes they want to wear in the morning before school. This could be pretty much frustating as well as wasting too much time. Having uniform for school will make the mornings much easier since they have only one choice, that is a set of uniform to wear. Hannah Paradise, a Scituate resident and junior at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, said on the topic of school uniforms that she loves the idea of school uniform. “It’s so easy and it’s nice not to have to worry about what to wear.”
To conclude, wearing uniform at school might be the best thing for the students. It is because school uniforms can decrease the bad behaviours of students, teach children the value of unity and equality, and help them to have easier mornings. Students will get the positive effects that help them grow as human being by having the policy of uniforms at school. Therefore, they must be encouraged to see the good side of wearing school uniforms.
